Lessons from Colossians
LESSONS FROM COLOSSIANS After concluding our studies on 1 Corinthians and Let the Nations Be Glad in our Koinonia young adult Sunday school group, our attention is now set on Colossians. Two main notes of application are on my mind lately. 1. The need for passionate lay leadership. There Paul, a Jew who gave his life for the Gentiles’ redemption, finds himself in Roman imprisonment. Al...
Easter 2012
After a couple thousand years of generations and cultures, we come to another year of commemorating the cross and the resurrection. It's 2012 and Jesus is still fulfilling His promise of building His Matt. 16:13-19 church centered on the glorious Eph. 1:7 redemption bought at the terrible but beautiful cross. God is still redeeming His people to Himself until the Rom. 11:25 fullness of the Genti...
Word-Shaped Prayer
Picking up on another Let the Nations Be Glad post, I wanted to include some of Piper's writings regarding prayer. Interestingly I read as Piper explained how prayer can often be too elevated above its intended role. Now, if you're like me and thinking, you may say, huh? Let me further explain. He continued to explain that prayer is often elevated in our emphasis on it over the Word of God. H...
Worship, Missions, and Life
Greetings! I just wanted to check in and share some stuff that I am really enjoying going through with the Koinonia group at our church from our Let the Nations Be Glad study. The study itself finds it's roots in a principle inseparably connected to the Scriptures as a whole. However, Psalm 67 rings clear on the study's central premise. "May God be gracious to us and bless us and make His f...
New Prayer Letter (Winter 2012)
Thank you once again so much for all of your prayers! Below are the links to our latest prayer update.   Winter 2012 Update
Our Deliverer, Our Solace
I was reading in Exodus today about Israel's deliverance from Egypt. Although the parting of the Red Sea and the host of other miraculous deliverances of Israel are familiar to us, I think we often take them for granted. Can you relate? Consider the Red Sea deliverance in Exodus 14 for a moment. Can you imagine what it must have been like! Imagine as we all are just delivered from an oppressive pe...

Let the Nations Be Glad!
I'm super amped (really, really excited) to launch a new study this Sunday in the Koinonia group! My attention is drawn to a book by John Piper, entitled, Let the Nations Be Glad. Piper's subtitle is "The Supremacy of God in Missions," but don't let the title and subtitle automatically shuffle this book into strictly a missions category. The Biblical truths in this book reveal God's desire and pla...
Corinthians… Jesus Identity
Well, in the Koinonia young adult group we just wrapped up our 6 month study in 1 Corinthians. Wow, what a great book! If you haven't lately checked out Paul's letters to the church at Corinth, maybe you should. We found this first canonical letter to the Corinthians to be extremely relevant for us the church today! In a world racked with moral depravity, God redeemed a people to Himself. Think ab...

Our Board and Accountability:

Our Agency

Our ministry is organized first and foremost under our sending church (Calvary Baptist of Geneva, IL). As we began looking for a mission agency that would come alongside and assist us in God’s calling on our lives to Alaska, we were directed through a series of circumstances to Central Missionary Clearinghouse. We are not against traditional mission boards, but we do believe that when sending churches are willing and able to function as both commisioning church and agency, this should be a viable option. Upon our initial calling and commissioning from our home church, the men decided to have the church function as both commissioning church and agency providing they could acquire some assitance with the finances incurred with our ministry. We became aware of the ministries of Central Missionary Clearinghouse through a fellow missionary family serving in Alaska’s bush. Central Missionary Clearinghouse is an independent Baptist ministry organized to serve missionaries and sending churches who wish to fully send the missionary, but who need some assistance with the finances. Our home church (Calvary Baptist) and Central Missionary Clearinghouse were a perfect match.

How CMC (Central Missionary Clearinghouse) Operates

The financial logistics function similarly to any traditional missionary agency. Churches and individuals send support to CMC’s offices (in Houston, TX) who in turn, route the support to us on a monthly basis. All donating and tax sensitve information is securely recorded and disbursed by CMC. For more information regarding CMC, please visit their website here.

What About Accountability?

In addition to our sending church keeping us accountable, CMC requires us to select at least 3 supporting pastors who form our accountability board. These pastors are regularly kept updated to our current ministry and any issues or decisions facing us. In this way we seek to be submissive to God’s leading, but also to God’s authority through the local church and it’s leaders. We strive to be Biblical and submissive as we humbly serve our Lord in the mission He has laid before us.

Pastor Rick Weesner (Sending Church Pastor – Calvary Baptist of Geneva, IL)

cbcgeneva@ameritech.net

I was reared on a grain farm in South-Central Illinois. When I was eight years old a missionary from the Philippines was visiting our church. After he presented the truth of the Gospel, I called upon the Lord to save me from my sin. Upon graduating High School, I attended one year of Bible College and then returned to my home town to pursue all “My” desires. After years of wrestling with God I returned to Bible College (Maranatha Baptist Bible College) and then Graduate School (MBBC) to continue my formal education. Through the preaching of God’s Word in a Mission’s Conference, I surrendered my will to God, to do whatever He wanted with my life. Since that day I have had a burning desire to preach the Word of God and to serve Him. The thirteen years of youth ministry and now ten years as senior pastor have been a gift from the Lord. Jesus said in John 10:10, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” As I look back over the years of ministry, I can honestly say, Jesus has kept His word.

At the age of 7, after the loss of my sister in an accident at home, my parents came to know Christ. The tremendous change in their lives had a big impact on my heart and life even at that age. I soon came to know Christ as my Savior. I graduated from MBBC in 1982 majoring in Bible and Pastoral Studies after which I spent 15 years teaching and coaching in several Christian schools. In 1999, while teaching at Lake County Baptist School in Waukegan, IL, God, who had been working on my heart for many years, gave my wife and I the opportunity to start Antioch Baptist Church in Antioch, IL. We have served here the last 10 years and we have seen God work in wonderful ways as He has been building His church. We praise God for His work in us and through us in His harvest field.
